Helping Students Succeed—On Their Own Terms. Coaching helps turn challenges into skills and effort into progress.
Who Benefits from Academic Coaching?
All students receive access to an exclusive handbook that outlines a clear, repeatable system for approaching daily classes, preparing for quizzes and tests, and managing major exams with confidence. Rather than relying on scattered tips, this handbook provides simple, realistic systems built around small daily habits that fit into busy student lives and reduce last-minute stress. Used consistently, these systems promote deeper understanding of the material, stronger personal responsibility, and a more successful, sustainable academic experience.
Recently, I gave each of my three kids a copy of Atomic Habits by James Clear and told them to read it as they wrapped up college and stepped into adult life. When I read it myself, one idea really stood out and completely changed how I thought about learning and school.
James Clear writes:
“If you want better results, then forget about setting goals. Focus on your system instead.”
That line was a huge “aha” moment for me. As an academic support specialist, I work with students every day on things like time management, staying on top of homework, studying for tests, accountability, and other executive function skills. I realized that I had been teaching all the right strategies—but I was teaching them as separate pieces instead of as a connected plan.
After reading Atomic Habits, it clicked: what students really need aren’t just tips, but systems. Simple, realistic systems that are easy to follow and actually fit into busy student lives. Systems that help you approach class with confidence, prepare effectively for quizzes and tests, and handle big exams without last-minute panic. Small daily habits, done consistently, that lead to real understanding of the material, stronger responsibility for your work, and a much more successful (and less stressful) academic experience.
My approach to academic coaching uses 3 different, easy to use, effective “systems.” A system for “How to Approach Classes” a system for “How to Prepare for Tests” and a system for “Preparing for Exams.”
